Mia Patoulios

Mia has nurtured artistic development in young people for almost 20 years. Seeking to create more opportunities for arts engagement, Mia worked for 7 years at Sydney Opera House establishing their education program and delivering projects including the Berlin Philharmonic Education Program, Sydney Opera House Child Protection Policy Project and the Sydney Opera House Arts Access Program. Mia has also acted in a senior leadership role with Penrith Performing and Visual Arts and the department of Education and Western Sydney University.

Joining SYO in 2015 in the role of Development Manager, Mia revolutionised SYO through the implementation of its first CRM, increased its base of government, foundation and private supporters, and broke new barriers for participation in music through open programs, increased scholarships, and outreach programs in Regional NSW and Western Sydney.

Mia was appointed CEO at Sydney Youth Orchestras in 2018, and her many achievements in this role includes delivering SYO’s new Child Safe Policy and spearheading SYO’s digital engagement and formulating the new SYO Strategic Plan.

Mia’s belief in the transformative power of the arts ensures that the benefit, safety, and development of young people are the core of all of Sydney Youth Orchestras’ activities. For Mia, involvement in SYO is more than being about developing the technical skill of playing; it is an act of playing together. In this way, young musicians are charged with being champions of orchestral music – not just in shaping the future of the artform, but playing a larger role in building a cohesive society.
