Managing Up: Making Your Board Work for You

This is a past event.

What does good governance, when the artistic, strategic and operational aspects of an arts organisation are in synch, mean in practice for board members and arts managers? SAMAG’s May seminar will reflect upon the idea that ultimately, good governance is about the executive and board working together effectively.

Chaired by the Capacity Development Manager of the Australia Council for the Arts, Dr Ricardo Peach, Managing Up: Making Your Board Work For You will explore how to cultivate the relationship between arts managers and board members to get the best results for your organisation.

Our experienced panel have been involved in organisations such as the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Australian Museum, Belvoir St Theatre, Bangarra Dance Theatre and the Vincent Fairfax Foundation. They will share their insights from both sides of the governance fence, providing practical advice on navigating complex issues such as board recruitment, board assessment and evaluation and how to manage a disengaged or overly involved board.
